Early Life and Career

Kira Salak was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1972. She graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies. After graduating, Salak began her journalism career as a reporter for the Sydney Morning Herald. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming known for her incisive reporting and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

In 2006, Salak joined the team at Four Corners, where she has since produced some of the most memorable and impactful documentaries in the program's history. Salak's work has covered a wide range of topics, from political corruption to corporate malfeasance to social injustice.

Notable Investigations

One of Salak's most notable investigations was her 2013 documentary, "The Great Tax Robbery." The documentary exposed a massive tax avoidance scheme involving multinational corporations, which was costing the Australian government billions of dollars in lost revenue. Salak's reporting led to a public outcry and ultimately forced the government to implement new laws to crack down on tax evasion.

Salak has also done extensive reporting on the treatment of Indigenous Australians. Her 2017 documentary, "The Forgotten Children," exposed the shocking conditions in which Indigenous children were being held in juvenile detention centers. The documentary led to a national inquiry into the treatment of Indigenous youth in the justice system.

In recent years, Salak has focused her attention on environmental issues. Her 2019 documentary, "Climate Wars," examined the political and corporate forces blocking action on climate change. The documentary was a critical success, winning the Walkley Award for Best Television Current Affairs Reporting.

Awards and Recognition

Kira Salak has received numerous awards for her work, including:

* Multiple Walkley Awards for Best Television Current Affairs Reporting * The Walkley Gold Walkley for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism * The United Nations Correspondents Association Award for Best Television Investigation * The CNN Journalist of the Year Award
